Ukiyo-e is Japanese traditional craft of printing. Developed around 17th century as a form of mass printing.
It uses the woodblock printing techniques which store layers of colors and transferred to papers to make colorful copies.
The term [Ukiyo-e] means [the floating world]. It ranged from travel landscapes to plants to female beauties and so on.
In this tour, you'll visit a long-standing Ukiyo-e workshop in Kyoto. Our guide will translate while you explore the concepts and process to make a print.
The shop master will explain the history and production process of Ukiyo-e.
After watching a short demonstration from the master, you will have the chance to try your hand at steps to create a simple printing.
After enjoying the Ukiyo-e techniques, let's have a short stroll of Nishiki Market in Kyoto.
